ODM has resolved the Nairobi county assembly leadership feud that threatened to split the party’s top brass.

The party on Tuesday held a joint meeting of the county assembly members and the central management committee at a city hotel where they resolved to retain the current minority house leadership.

The party officials agreed to retain Elias Otieno and Peter Imwatok as minority leader and minority whip respectively.

Secretary general Edwin Sifuna in a statement said the joint meeting also resolved to harmonise the House committee memberships within the next one week to ensure equity.

Tuesday’s meeting also resolved that the minority leadership fosters unity within the house going forward to ensure service delivery to Nairobi residents.

Last week, Sifuna and party chairman John Mbadi sent out conflicting messages on the leadership of the assembly exposing divisions within the orange party.

Read:

Mbadi had communicated that ODM had replaced Otieno with Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi as minority leader and Imwatok with Lower Savannah’s Nicholas Okumu as whip.

However,Sifuna rubbished Mbadi’s communication and directed the current leadership to stay put.

In a letter, Sifuna described himself as the "spokesperson, authorised principal officer and the person mandated by the constitution of the party to issue correspondence on behalf of the party."

"You are directed to disregard any communication to the contrary. No changes have been made to the minority side leadership by the party or any of its organs," Sifuna said.

But Mbadi maintained that the changes stood and his decision as the chairman cannot be overruled by the secretary general.
