Western Stima have dropped 12 players and signed 10 ahead of the 2018/2019 Sportpesa Premier League season which starts next month.
At the same time, Stima chairman Laban Jobita confirmed that Paul Ogai will remain the head coach, assisted by Dan Omondi. Ogai guided Stima back to the top flight league after taking over from Richard Makumbi.
“Ogai has been given a contract and will be our head coach. He did a good job in the second leg of the National Super League and helped us get promoted back to the top flight league,” said Jobita. “We are going to compete and challenge for the league title. We have assembled a very good squad.”
The new signings include midfielders Baron Oketch — who returns to the club after stints with Gor Mahia and Ushuru, Martin Oduor and Chemelil captain Clifford Omondi. Omondi reunites with Ogai, who coached him at the defunct Palos FC.
The club also signed three strikers; Ian Otieno, Kennedy Agogo and Henry Onyango.
Defenders Samuel Olare, Vincent Odongo and Vincent Omuombo have also joined the Kisumu-based side while goalkeeper Antony Obonyo was poached from NSL side,  Kenya Police.
Obonyo, who had an impressive run in the second tier league, will battle it out with Samuel Odhiambo in goal.
Those dropped are Dan Otie, John Oruko, Dan Okello, Charles Kibet, Dennis Junior, Dennis Ochieng, Maurice Dukully, John Oginga, Renny Makumbi, Jeckonia Ogendo and Geoffrey Were.
On Wednesday, Stima started their pre-season friendlies with a 2-1 win over Chemelil Sugar at Chemelil Complex. Hubert Kompany gave Stima the lead but former Vihiga United and Isibania FC hitman, Lucas Weitere equalised for the millers. Omondi returned to haunt his former employers after netting the winning goal. Stima will start their top flight campaign against Posta Rangers on December 8.
