Ronaldinho to grace All Stars, Vihiga friendly encounter

Brazilian World Cup winner Ronaldinho will be the guest of honour during a friendly match between Kisumu All Stars and Vihiga at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu tomorrow.
The former AC Milan and Barcelona forward will also conduct a football clinic for teams from the region in addition to taking part in a ‘Pepeta’ challenge.
The event is a partnership between Betika, Kisumu County Sports, Extreme Sports and Gina Din Communications.
In addition, there will be another friendly match between Eldoret Youths and Bondo United, geared towards offering mentorship to young upcoming players.
The winner of the match between All Stars and Vihiga will pocket Sh200,000 while the loser will take home Sh100,000.
Kisumu County Executive Officer for Tourism, Sports, Arts, Culture and Information, Achie Alai, said: “This will be a great opportunity for our players as they get to interact and learn from one of the best players of his generation.”
Alai added that the county government of Kisumu has set aside Sh100m to upgrade the facility into international standards.
“We have renovated the stadium, worked on the VIP stand and we hope at the end of the project, Moi Stadium will be a preferred destination in terms of sports,” she added.
“We shall be learning from the best. We are already building confidence and the desire to win and with Ronaldinho’s words of wisdom, we can scale the heights of world class football,” said Alfred Adu, Kisumu All Stars team manager.
“For me it’s a dream come true, I have been playing football passionately since childhood and people nicknamed me Gaucho, I lack words, I can’t wait.”
Apart from gracing the exhibition match, Ronaldinho who is also the brand ambassador for Betika, will open the firm’s office in Kisumu.
“We will use this opportunity to strengthen the county’s global linkages and work on uplifting the career horizons of our talented young footballers,” Alai added.
