Homeboyz have appointed Simon Odongo as head coach for the 2018/19 season.
Odongo, who served as team manager, takes over from Paul Murunga who has since been elevated to Kenya Sevens team head coach. Odongo will also double up as team manager. In other changes, Polycarp Odhiambo takes up the role of assistant coach and forwards’ coach while Thomas Okidia is the new captain and will be deputised by Kenya Simbas scrum-half Mohammed Omollo and Roy Wesonga.
Odongo has been with the side since it’s formation in 2009 and his goal will be to ensure the Deejays win the Safari Sevens this weekend , the invitational tournament in Dubai later this month and Kenya Cup. Murunga exuded confidence that Odongo will do a good job.

“He has been part of the team since formation and we now have a much stable team and good depth. We have built a strong team and all the hard work has already been done for eight years. We just need to win cups now,” Murunga said. Homeboyz, who won the 2018 Enterprise Cup, has never won the Kenya Cup and came close in the last two seasons, falling to Kabras Sugar in semis. They won the national Sevens circuit in 2016 and 2018.
The Deejays have named internationals Augustine Lugonzo and Bush Mwale for this weekend’s Safari Sevens tournamnet at the RFUEA ground. Centre Mark Ongayo, who joined from Nondies and Monate Akuei who was poached from Top Fry Nakuru, are in line to make their debut for the Deejays.
Victor Ochoro will skipper the side that has Kenya Cup regulars—Max Kangeri, Collins Shikoli, Zeden Marrow and Israel Soi. Homeboyz are in Pool C where they play Portugal, Uganda at and Kenya Morans.
