A Bungoma WhatsApp group has impressed the Education Cabinet Secretary for using social media to help buy desks for needy pupils.

The Kanduyi Constituents WhatsApp group gave their donation of Sh671,000 desks at Kisuluni Primary School at an

event attended by Education CS Amina Mohamed

“I'm delighted by this group's gesture. Unlike other social media platforms where members use it to insult each other, this

one has pooled together resources to help the needy," the CS said.

She said the prudent use of social media can change

lives.

Amina pledged to build three classes and nine toilets as requested by the head teacher of Kisuluni.

She also promised to give Sh400,000 to the

group and become a member.

Kanduyi administrator Edward Wamalwa said the WhatsApp group also donated 1,000

textbooks and members plan to set up a library.

He asked

the county government to provide space for setting up a library.

Schools that received free desks included Sikinga,

Butunde, Mahanga PEFA, Machakha,

Laboot,

Kisuluni,

Chepsitati, Allan Bradley, and Lufwindiri.
