Ex-Thika United captain Dennis Lewa among 56 killed in Fort Ternan crash

Former Thika United FC captain Dennis Lewa was among the 56 passengers who passed on in the Wednesday Fort Ternan bus crash. 

Kenya Premier League on Thursday said it was deeply saddened by the news.

"It is with deep sadness that we learn of the demise of Thika United player Dennis Lewa who passed on in the tragic accident at Fort Ternan on Wednesday," KPL tweeted.

"Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and Thika United during this time."

Lewa was heading to Kakamega to seal a move to KPL side Kakamega Homeboyz.

Kericho police commander James Mugera said the accident occurred after the Homeboyz bus' brakes failed.

The driver lost control of the vehicle as it descended the black spot. The bus veered off the road and rolled several times.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Deputy President William Ruto and UN Secretary general Antonio Guterres sent their condolences.

Others who mourned the departed were Health CS Silicliy Kariuki, Sports CS Rashid Echesa, and Council of Governors chairman Josphat Nanok.
