Wiper Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday asked the government to use taxes collected from Kenyans prudently.
Kalonzo said the government must fight corruption for the economy to grow.
He spoke at Kenya Assemblies of God Chapel in Imara Daima during the consecration of General Superintendent Rev Bishop Philip Kitoto. Deputy President William Ruto also attended the event.
"I saw William
[Deputy President] struggling to explain the new taxes. I remembered the words of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ when He was confronted by a similar situation. He said give to Caesar what is Caesar’s. However, Kenyans want integrity in the use of taxes," Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo asked the church to be in the forefront in fighting corruption and other ills in society.
DP Ruto said the government will partner with church organisations to implement programmes aimed at transforming the lives of Kenyans.
He said the government recognises the critical role played by churches in the development of the country especially in the fields of education and health.

Ruto told religious organisations to help unite the country by building bridges of friendship and brotherhood.
"As church leaders, you should make sacrifices, build teams and bridges of friendship and brotherhood to facilitate unity and transformation," he said.
He told the clergymen to ensure all ethnic communities have Bibles translated in languages they understand.
The DP said organisations that include the private sector will in December join hands to explore ways of ensuring the remaining 15 communities that are yet to have Bibles translated into their respective dialects are assisted to do so.
"I have always believed that there is no greater joy than reading scriptures and telling a salvation story to a community in the language familiar to them," Ruto said.
"Nelson Mandela once said ‘if you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language it goes to his heart."
Ruto promised Embakasi residents that in two weeks, major roadwork will be launched.
"We will come here to launch the construction of Deveba road, which connects Embakasi and Industrial area. Resources are available," Ruto said.
The DP said Eastland’s had been neglected for a long time, and it is time to change that.
