A 70-year-old man was on Friday arraigned in Kitale for defiling a 15-year-old girl contrary to provisions of the Sexual Offences Act.

Charles Wakoli of Tulwet village, Kiminini constituency was reportedly caught while defiling the Standard Five pupil in a bathroom.

The court was told that the man was busted by his neighbour’s child who heard screams from the bathroom.

The girl's grandfather Robert Munialo said Wakoli defiled the minor as she was bathing on Saturday at about 3pm.

"Wakoli entered the bathroom the moment the girl had applied soap over her face and defiled her," he said.

The suspect was taken before village elders and Nyumba Kumi committee where he admitted to the accusations and asked to be forgiven.

He was later taken to Kitale police station and was arraigned before resident magistrate Paul Mutai. Wakoli denied the charges against him.

He was detained after failing to raise a Sh300,000 bond granted by the court. The case will be mentioned on October 30 with the hearing slated for November 12.
