Environment and Lands Court Judge Samuel Mukunya died in a road accident in Nyeri on Thursday night.

The judge, who was stationed at the Kerugoya High court, died after he lost control of his car and hit a lorry.

The accident occurred at Embassy area on the Nyeri-Nyahururu road.

Nyeri traffic boss Castarais Mugo on Friday said the judge was driving towards Mweiga.

"He died while police were rushing him to Nyeri county referral hospital. Both vehicles were seriously damaged."

The traffic officer said the authorities only learnt in the morning that the accident casualty was a judge.

"He was alone. We did not identify him immediately," she said.

Judiciary officers from Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties transfered the body to Outspan funeral home in Nyeri town.
