British PM Theresa May arrives for bilateral talks with Uhuru

UK Prime Minister Theresa May arrived in the country for bilateral talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

She landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at about 6.30am on Thursday.

The PM is expected to arrive at State House at 11am where she will be received by the President.

Uhuru and the British Prime minister will give a joint statement at around 11.30am on the deliberations.

Some of the issues to be addressed are foreign policy, trade and investment, tourism, and military support.

Uhuru will seek to strengthen its trade ties with the UK as it is the second most important export destination.

May is expected to sign what the Foreign Affairs ministry has termed as 'crucial documents'.

The visiting PM and the President will then head to the Humanitarian Support Centre at the Embakasi Garrison at 2.30pm.

The two heads of State will then convene at Strathmore University at 3:30 pm for Kenya-UK business forum.

May will then be joined by top government officials for a state banquet at State House at 7.00pm.

The Prime Minister will spend the night in Nairobi after which she will travel to Nanyuki on Friday to meet British forces.

Soldiers from Kenya and other African countries are being trained on the techniques needed to identify and destroy IEDs used by terror group al Shabaab.

It is the first visit a British Prime minister in three decades.
