Oburu Oginga has accused Deputy President William Ruto of using a state office to advance his 2022 ambition for the presidency.

The East Africa Legislative MP, who is ODM leader Raila Odinga's brother,

said Ruto should be surcharged for using his position and office for politics, instead of initiating development projects.

He addressed journalists in Bondo, Siaya county on Sunday following Ruto's calls for

NASA principal Musalia Mudavadi (Amani National Congress) to support his bid in the next general election.

Oburu said Kenyans need a break from politics as they faced the longest elections period in history after the August 8, 2017 ballot.

He further accused Ruto of

using government machinery and resources to go to every corner of the country to popularise himself.

"We will not allow the DP

to misuse Kenyans' taxes in early campaigns before the IEBC declares [the dates]," he said.

The MP said Ruto's moves show he has lost track of development and that he

wants to subject the country to politics without a break.

On July 22, the DP pointed out that he does not need to consult anybody to visit any part of Kenya. He brushed off those who count the number of times he tours regions such as the Coast, saying he will visit the region “even a thousand times”.

He said his visits are meant to foster development and not campaign for 2022.

Oburu also told the DP to stop engaging in cheap politics by accusing Raila of betraying him in 2007, yet he was the ultimate beneficiary.

"The greatest beneficiary

in any course cannot claim to have helped anyone at the end but himself.

Look at last general elections; Ruto didn't help President Uhuru Kenyatta but as DP he is the beneficiary. He should not expect any returns from Uhuru in 2022."

Oburu further said:

"Ruto is talking of being betrayed in 2007 and being supported in 2022 when he has never supported anyone without benefiting.

At this time, Kenyans are not interested in who betrayed Ruto in 2007 but on development now that he is in office as the Deputy President."

Ruto said his friendship with Mudavadi

dates back to their days in ODM and that it is time for them to join forces again.

The DP told the ANC leader to back him since he is just a step away from the top seat.

“We agreed in 2007 that Raila Odinga would become President. My brother Mudavadi was to be the Vice President and I was to be Prime Minister," he said.

“But because of what happened, we finally got the position of Prime Minister but it went to [Raila] while the slot of deputy Prime Minister went to Mudavadi. I got nothing but was taken to the Hague."
