Kenya Railways is demolishing illegal structures on its land in Dandora.

Two churches and five residential houses have been pulled down.

Residents say they were given a seven-day notice to vacate the area. But some of them had ignored the notice and have lost their belongings.

Regular and Administration Police officers have been deployed to man the operation.

This is a different operation from the one being carried out by the Nairobi River Regeneration team.

Also being demolished are kiosks along Mowlem Road. The demolitions started at 6 am

"We spent the whole night rescuing our belongings. They told us they would come but we were not sure until yesterday evening," landlord Cynthia Onchoke said.
