Two GSU officers are today expected to explain where the ammunition assigned to them during last year’s poll are as the inquest into the death of baby Samantha Pendo continues.
Constables Jeffer Omar and Evans Kibet failed to account for their ammunition after they concluded operations in Nyalenda Slums during last year August election.
The two were summoned by resident magistrate Beryl Omollo.
This was discovered after the Arms Movement Book produced in court indicated they did not return them.
An operation order produced in the court showed the two officers were deployed to Sector One (Nyalenda-Tumaini area) - the place where Pendo was allegedly assaulted, leading to her death.
Last week, the GSU officer in charge of all those deployed in the region Senior Superintendent Titus Mutune said some failed to return the arms they were assigned.
Mutune said the officers were assigned riot batons, teargas and guns.
During cross-examination, he denied Pendo was assaulted by a GSU officer. He said they were operating under a commander who could not allow the incident to happen.
