Busia assembly eulogises Etyang as brilliant mind

The Busia assembly yesterday eulogised Justice (Rtd) Alex Etyang as a brilliant legal mind. Etyang was the former legal adviser of the Busia governor.
He collapsed and died on Sunday at the meeting of a burial committee that he chaired.
Deputy speaker Lawrence Okaale sent a message of condolence to family and friends of Etyang, through Governor Sospeter Ojaamong.
Okaale said Etyang’s service in the legal field spans over four decades and will be remembered for many years. “We are standing with the family of the governor’s former legal adviser, who was dedicated to his work. It is a big blow to the legal fraternity,” he said.
Former vice chairman of the Electoral Commission of Kenya Gabriel Mukele described Etyang as brilliant, faithful and dedicated to his work. He said his death is unfortunate with no right of appeal.
Etyang was sworn in as advocate of the High Court in 1973 by Chief Justice Sir James Wicks. He worked as state counsel in Nyeri and Kisumu.
In 1995, he was appointed judge of the High Court. He was resident judge in Meru, Eldoret and Mombasa. He retired in 2003 . He moved to the Attorney General’s Chamber after being promoted to the position of assistant Director of Public Prosecutions.
