Police in Makueni on Tuesday night arrested two suspects and impounded bhang worth Sh5 million.
The bhang is suspected to have been sourced from Tanzania.

A third suspect is on the run.

Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim said the bhang was stocked in two vehicles destined for Mombasa.
Traffic and regular police in patrol along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway gave chase to one of the vehicle forcing the driver to abandon it at Ndiini in Taita Taveta County.
The officers were acting on a tip-off that there were vehicles suspected to be transporting bhang through Migori to Mombasa.
“Our officers set a trap but the driver of the first vehicle defied orders to stop, instead he sped off forcing the officers to give chase but he abandoned the vehicle in Taita Taveta," Maalim told reporters at Sultan Hamud police station.
The driver of the second vehicle diverted to Wote upon reaching Makindu after he realized police were on the pursuit.
He was arrested at Kathonzweni with another occupant.
The two vehicles were driven to Sultan Hamud police station while the suspects were locked up at Makueni police station.
“We cannot allow people to make quick money by doing illegal business that is destructive to the lives of Kenyans and the young generation. We are conducting an operation to weed out such people,” said Maalim.
