Former Cabinet minister Ochilo Ayacko on Wednesday withdrew the petition challenging Migori governor Okoth Obado's election.

The event followed after his handshake with the governor which was initiated by ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Ayacko further confirmed that he is now firmly in the race for Migori senator in the by-election scheduled for October 8.

During the burial of Senator Ben Okello on July 9, Raila brought the two political adversaries to a truce.

Obado at that time asked Raila to convince Ayacko to drop the petition which was to be decided at the Court of Appeal on July 27.

More on this:

The former minister sought the governor seat as an independent candidate in the August 2017 poll.

He lost and challenged the outcome, a case which was thrown out by the Migori High court prompting him to appeal.

"I have withdrawn the case since I can never go against Odinga’s direction. I am also in the race for Migori senator seat," Ayacko said.

He said this during an interview with a local radio station.

The move has brought to an end, speculation about his senator bid. This was rife after he declined President Uhuru Kenyatta's bid to appoint him as an ambassador.

"I declined the presidential appointment because my heart is in serving the people."
