More than 800 youths have abandoned banditry in Kerio Valley since January, Elgeyo Marakwet deputy governor Wesley Kiptoo has said.
Kiptoo said at least 200 youths are being rehabilitated and given skills training. “We have started with rehabilitation programmes to benefit some of the youth but we hope to expand it,” Kiptoo said at a human rights forum in Eldoret on Monday.
Governor Alex Tolgos, who visited Kerio Valley two weeks ago, says many projects that had collapsed have now resumed due to improved security. More than 3,000 pupils have returned to school, he said.
