Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has suspended Devolution CEC Vesca Kangogo for insubordination.

In a letter dated June 5, County Secretary Peter Kariuki said Kangogo travelled to the US on June 1 despite the Governor instruction against it.

“Your failure to obey lawful instruction from your appointing authority is tantamount to insubordination and therefore, you are hereby directed to step aside from your duties and responsibilities."

Kangogo is the

County Executive Committee Member for Devolution and Public Service Management.

Kariuki asked her to provide a “satisfactory response” in seven days on why she travelled without Sonko's express authority.

He declined to give more on the matter when contacted on Wednesday.

“This is a personal matter and an in-house affair that I am not allowed to discuss outside my office,” he told the Star on phone.

Kangogo did not answer calls for comment on the punishment.

Kangogo was moved to the Devolution docket in a cabinet reshuffle in February. She had been in charge of

Finance and Economic Planning.

She also served as the vice chairperson of the county Public Service Board in former Governor Evans Kidero’s administration.
