Landslide cuts off Kanjama-Kangema road

Transport has been paralyzed along Kanjama-Kangema road in Muranga after a section of it collapsed due to a landslide.

Kenya Rural Roads Authority has urged motorists to use

alternative

routes.

“KeRRA would like to issue an alert on the Kanjama Kiria-ini

Kangema

Road where a section has collapsed due to a landslide, therefore,

rendering it impassable. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes at the moment,” a tweet from the Authority said.

The

meteorological department on Sunday issued a warning that the region would experience heavy rains for the next three days.

Other areas include

Western Kenya

and Rift Valley.

On Tuesday, KeRRA issued another alert on the Iten-Kabarnet road after it was off by a landslide at Kamok, next to Kolol centre.

"KeRRA would like to issue an alert on the Iten Kabarnet Road which has been cut off by a landslide at Kamok, next to Kolol centre. Drivers should temporarily halt the use of the road and take caution as efforts are currently underway to excavate the debris," read a statement.

Meanwhile, motorists using the busy Lodwar-Kakuma road were forced to seek alternative routes to get to either side of Kalawasse River bridge after that section of the road was swept off.

This follows a heavy downpour experienced in Turkana County.

“Lodwar-Kakuma road cut off at Kalawasse River bridge following heavy rains in the last 24 hours in Turkana County,” according to the Kenya Red Cross.

Those using the Mandera-Rhamu road were also inconvenienced as it was cut off by the raging flood waters.
