One person has died and 500 others displaced when Entasopia River in Kajiado bursts its banks on Tuesday.
A local dispensary was also submerged.
A woman, who was delivering at the dispensary, escaped death narrowly after the floods swept through the facility.
County Health CECM Esther Somoire and deputy governor, Martin Moshisho flew to the location to offer assistance to the affected families.
“We are grateful to the nurses for saving two lives. We have managed to give out sugar, blankets and maize meal to the affected families,” said Somoire.
Entasopia River flows into Kajiado West constituency from Narok.
The local residents said they were caught by surprise by the raging water.
A resident Joseph Sirai told the Star that the water started rising after 9 am and as at 1 pm, the river had bursts its banks.
“People started gathering their property in Manyattas along the river and moving to higher heights. One person who had attempted to cross the water was carried away but managed to climb a tree but the tree was uprooted and he was swept away,” Sirai said.
Three people died downstream the river two weeks ago in a landslide that occurred as they took cover from the rains in a cave.
