DP William Ruto often visits Kakamega county as he got his "better half" there.
The Deputy President gave this explanation on Thursday in his address at the 5th Annual Devolution Conference.
The meeting is taking place at Kakamega High School in the county headed by Wycliffe Oparanya.
"Oparanya says I come to Kakamega often. It's true. I got my better half from here," he said at the closing ceremony.
Ruto said his wife Rachel attended Likuyani Primary and Butere Girls' High schools in Kakamega town.
"When I came to pay dowry, I went to Likuyani. Those looking for a reason as to why I hang around here often ... you now know why."
The DP said when you find your better
half in a certain county you "obviously have fond memories and feelings" about that place.
"You don't forget that place easily ... Like the Bible says, he who finds a wife finds a good thing ... aside from the fact that I am just a neighbour," he said.
Raise has always been full of praises for his wife.
After he was cleared of crimes against humanity by the ICC, he said he often did not find his wife in bed at midnight as she was out praying about the case.
At that time, the DP thanked Rachel for sneaking out to "pray fervently" for him, saying God was gracious to him and his family through the "torturous situation".
Ruto also said his children reduced the weight on his shoulders during the six years that the trial lasted at the International Criminal Court.
