The national government will pay tax imposed on imported dates for use during the holy month of Ramadhan.
The Muslim society will be celebrating Ramadhan between
May 15 - June 14.
In an April 13 letter to KRA, National Treasury PS Kamau Thugge said the taxes will be billed on the government.
The letter was addressed to KRA commissioner general John Njiraini.
Thugge termed the move as a gesture of manifesting goodwill to the Muslim community during the month of Ramadhan.
This is not the first time the government has excused payments of taxes on dates during this period.
In 2016, President Uhuru Kenyatta said that sugar being vital during the fasting period would be supplied to less fortunate families.
Muslims across the country benefited from donations of food and dates from the government.
