Young African Leaders Initiative, an initiative by former US President Barack Obama, was launched in Busia county on Saturday.

Participants were asked to change their mindset on blue collar jobs.

Busia Youth executive Bernard Yaite launched Yali at Hotel Levantes in Amagoro. It brought youth from all the subcounties.

Yaite was with chief officers Joy Wanga (Sports), Daniel Mogoria (Vocational Training) and Teso North youth officer Eliud Ondara. Yaite urged the youth to resist peer pressure and take up the available opportunities.

He said Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is passionate about youth empowerment.

The Youth executive said he will work with the youth to strengthen the Yali network and Youth Council.

Yaite said the department will roll out sports development, youth empowerment and apprentice programmes.
