A police officer was robbed of his pistol in a battle with suspected gangsters in Kamulu, Ruai on Monday at dawn.

A report filed at Kamulu police station says the officer and his colleague had received information from a member of public that a four-man gang was at Ng'undu bridge.

The two undercover officers rushed to the scene where they found them.

"Upon challenging them to surrender, one of the gangsters drew a sword and cut PC Richard Kipsang on the right hand wrist prompting his firearm, a Jericho pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition to fall from his hand," the report read in part.

"In the process, one of the gangsters picked the firearm and ran away towards Joska. His colleague was by then pursuing an escaping gangster."

Kayole OCPD Joseph Gichangi said a team of officers from Joska and Kamulu has been deployed on the ground to pursue the gangsters.

The injured officer was treated at Ruai Family Hospital and is in stable condition.
