Two cargo trains running on the old railway line rammed into each other on Sunday evening in Mtito Andei, Makueni County.
Both trains were heading to Mombasa when one hit the other from behind.
Area OCPD Francis Kamau said the accident occurred 700 meters from the Mtito Andei Railway station.
Kamau said no one was hurt in the accident.
He said they have sought specialised machines to tore the trains from the scene.
"For now we waiting for specialised assistance from our engineers. We have launched investigations to establish how the trains hit each other," he said.
The police boss said operations along the line might be disrupted for a while until the two trains are removed.
