Three more juvenile gang members shot dead in Likoni

Three suspected criminal gang members were on Monday shot dead in Likoni, Mombasa county after an attempted robbery.

The three juvenile gang members were gunned down within Mtongwe area after they slashed and robbed residents at around 5.30pm.

Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich said the suspects were in a group of seven who demanded cash and other household goods from locals.

"They were all armed with machetes and had literary taken over Mweza area where they staged a robbery. Special crime unit officers responded and managed to kill the three."

"Four suspects, among them their gang leaders, escaped with bullets injuries and police are pursuing them," Rotich said.

Police said tenants have fled from the area following constant attacks by the marauding machete-wielding gangs.

Rotich said the suspects are members of the notorious Wakali Kwanza and Wakali Wao criminal gangs.

Last week, two gang members were also shot dead within the same area after a foiled robbery at Soko Mjinga.

The latest killing has raised the number of criminal gang members shot in Mombasa to eleven in the past two weeks.

Other gangs in Mombasa police's radar are Kapenguria Six, Wajukuu wa Bibi, Young Thugs, Chafu, and Watalia.
