Avenue Hospital has suspended the nurse who was arrested in Kisumu on Friday for allegedly stealing a 10-week-old baby.

On Monday, the nurse was still being detained at Kondele Police station amid

investigations.

Dennis Ogolla, Group Management Director of Avenue Hospital, said they had no prior knowledge of the nurse's actions.

But he said they secured the baby and immediately notified police who swung into action and arrested the health worker.

"Avenue Hospital Kisumu does not condone such behaviour. The nurse remains suspended until the case is solved."

Kisumu police boss Christopher Mutune told the Star that their probe is centred on the nurse's motive.

"The woman is not opening up to officers regarding where she got the baby," he said.

Officers said they were liaising with

medics within the county for tests to uncertain whether the baby is hers.

"From the test we will know the truth. If any offence established she will be taken to court," he said, adidng they had not received reports of a missing or abducted baby.

The suspect was arrested at the facility

on Friday night after taking the infant for a check-up.
