Jubilee and Nasa MPs on Tuesday complained to Speaker Justin Muturi over poor services including bad food and tea offered to them by the catering department.

The MPs lamented of undeserving services rendered to them as lawmakers.

“Mr Speaker the type of tea that is offered here has very little milk and it looks like that offered during funerals,” Minority leader Junet Mohammed said amid laughter from his colleagues.

The MPs were scheduled to debate a motion on the appointment of members to the committee on services and facilities but turned it into an arena to air their “plights”.

Junet said they were being obliged to queue and pay for expensive food at the dining hall but get poor quality meals during lunch time.

The MPs also complained that they have been offered poor gym service and resorted to paying for alternative services outside Parliament.

Minority leader John Mbadi said: “We queue for food here like high school children. We pay heavily for this food and it is supposed to be like that of a five-star hotel. But instead, the food is bad”.

Jubilee nominated MP David Ole Sankok told the House that he has been encountering a hard time accessing his office at Continental House.

“The floor at Continental House where my office is situated is very slippery. As PWDs, we need representation in that committee. Can you imagine an MP being carried to the toilet due to the terrain of those buildings?” Sankok said.

Sankok and his Westlands counterpart Tim Wanyonyi lamented that they have been encountering difficulties accessing washrooms and the gym.

“Mr Speaker, it's good to note that some packing slots reserved for us have been taken away by other members. We cannot access the gym facilities whenever we need physiotherapy,” Wanyonyi said.

Majority leader Aden Duale said: “We will ensure that Kenya's food diversity is brought here in Parliament. Junet attends a lot of funerals and that is why he is complaining about tea. The committee has a full entry now”.
