Samples taken from a form one student in
Elgeyo Marakwet
have tested negative for the Ebola and
Marburg viruses.
County Health Executive Kiprono Chepkok said the samples
were airlifted to Kenya Medical Research Institute in Nairobi where the testing was done.
Panic had gripped Simotwo High School as the student died on Tuesday after exhibiting symptoms similar to those of Ebola.
Chepkok said: “We received a student at our
sub-county
hospital who was bleeding from all the orifices. He
was referred
to
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital
but died before getting there."
Chepkok said the sudden death triggered panic but that students, teachers and other staff were urged to patiently wait for the test results.
“We took samples from the body. We wanted to rule out Ebola and Marburg."
He said the Tuesday quarantine at the school was lifted after Kemri released the test results on Wednesday.
