Nasa Principal Musalia Mudavadi has denied saying Raila Odinga betrayed them on the day of his self-inauguration.

The Amani National Congress leader noted on Wednesday that all he did was explain events that led to the People's President's swearing-in at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on January 30.

Mudavadi also said he explained why he did not show up as had been expected.

Noting his weekend meeting with Luhya elders was closed-door, the politician said:

“I never said Raila betrayed us. I would never use such words."

He spoke to The Star by phone.

None of the ODM leader's co-principals stood with him on that crucial day. The others are Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper party, who was to become the People's Deputy President, and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula who is Ford Kenya party chief.

It was reported that Mudavadi told the elders that Raila tricked his co-principals into missing his controversial oath-taking ceremony.

He allegedly made the revelation on Sunday during a meeting with a section of Luhya MPs and the Western Elders’ Council at Francis Atwoli’s home.

The disclosure exposed the simmering unease within the Opposition coalition despite the show of normalcy as affiliate parties begin to switch their focus to the 2022 race.

But

Atwoli, who is

Cotu Secretary General, said ANC leaders did not attack Raila during the meeting at his Khwisero home but only explained that somethings were not clear at the time.

"He [Mudavadi] told us what happened. We agreed that he will remain the Luhya spokesman and the best candidate to back for presidency in 2022," he added.
