Raila tweeted:

"On my way to Buhera, Zimbabwe, to attend the burial of my dear late brother MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai; which is taking place tomorrow."

Tsvangirai’s rural home is in Buhera, which is

situated some 300 kilometres from the capital Harare.

President Emerson Mnangagwa said a state funeral will be held for

the

former trade unionist but that he won't be buried at the country's National Heroes Acre.

Raila and Tsivangirai's friendship dates back to 1993 when the two formidable government critics met in Zimbambwe.

The Kenyan Opposition leader had led an International Republican Institute team to train political parties and civil societies in Zimbabwe in readiness for the multi-party elections that were approaching.

Tsvangirai was at the time with Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum, a civil society organisation founded in 1992 to sensitise Zimbabwean citizens about human rights and empower them to defend their own rights.

Tsivangirai is considered by Zimbabweans as a father of democracy owing to his long drawn battle to unseat ousted strongman Robert Mugabe.

Mugabe was forced to step down by the country's military in October last year.

Reports from Harare indicated the former President had not officially spoken on the death of his toughest rival.
