Nairobi CECs have dismissed as fake, a letter doing rounds on social media claiming that they have threatened to resign in protest over the interference of their work by an EALA MP.

They said the author of the letter wants to portray the county government as unstable.

"This is fake and malicious news which should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. The 10 CEC members remain steadfast in our commitment to serve the people of Nairobi and to support governor Mike Sonko," they said in a statement on Thursday.

In the said fake letter, the CECs purportedly threatened to resign on March 1 to protest the interference of their operations by EALA MP Simon Mbugua.

The letter claimed the MP has been abusing, intimidating and issuing unlawful and irregular directives to the CECs.

It further claimed that the MP has assumed the role of the chief officer and procurement manager at City Hall and has been issuing "phony tenders of supply of goods and services to suppliers".

Sonko, for his part, said the fake letter was the work of corrupt individuals who are out to destabilize his government because of his purge on corruption at City Hall.

"I’m wondering why cartels have much interest in Nairobi. All my CEC members are condemning the fake letter circulating on their resignation."

"We are all firm and working as a team. I know it will hurt many since I have sealed all corruption loopholes," he tweeted.

This came amid allegations that Mbugua has been interfering with City Hall operations, a claim said was the work of cartels fighting back after all their corruption loopholes were sealed.
