Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati will not hesitate to take action against corrupt

county enforcement officers.

Wangamati issued this warning on Wednesday when he presided over the passing-out parade of 21 officers at the county headquarters in Bungoma town.

"I have often warned about the monster of corruption since taking office as the second Governor of Bungoma. That is something we will not entertain," he told the 21 officers.

"When you get out of here and get chances to serve in office across the county, you must remain loyal to what we stand for in service to residents."

Wangamati praised the officers for a successful training and asked them to live up to their service delivery mandate.

Regarding their welfare, he said he was shocked at how badly their uniforms looked when he took over from Kenneth Lusaka.

He promised new uniforms and added:

‘We will, in this financial year, set aside some money to ensure our officers are very well branded and that they appear smart."

Public Administration executive Keya Sabwami said the officers will be assigned tasks in the county’s nine constituencies.

"They will assist with revenue collection, criminal investigations and prosecutions, VIP escort and protection, securing county properties and installations, traffic control and fire compliance," he said.

Sabwami also said the officers will also help train 315 recruits who will be deployed to all parts of Bungoma.

The 21 include 10 corporals, five sergeants, three senior sergeants and three inspectors.

"This group will also be in charge of platoons that will be spread out across the county in various units," added the official.

"The 315 enforcement officers will handle challenges we have been facing in contracting services."

Deputy Governor Prof Charles Ng’ome warned the officers against harassment, saying he had received many reports from Kamukuywa and Tongaren.
