LG Electronics has announced an increased  sponsorship deal for Sports Journalists Association of Kenya football awards to a tune of Sh6million.
LG have sponsored Sjak to a tune of Sh3.5m annually for the last three years but have upped the sponsorship package in an ambitious plan to take the monthly and gala awards to the next level.
The company’s East and Central Africa marketing director, Moses Marji, said they will sponsor the monthly awards, three football related Corporate Social Responsibly (CSR) programmes and the awards gala which will fete the best eight football players as voted by the Sjak panel at the conclusion of the ongoing season.
“We have been asking ourselves and wondering how our involvement would change the society and indeed the lives of our people and the awards seek to do just that,” said Marji. He added that they will continue awarding the monthly winners with LG TV sets.
“LG is determined to support and empower local footballers and ensure they reach desirable levels in their careers. We are determined to support players and the community of sports,” added Marji. Sjak president Chris Mbaisi, thanked LG Electronics for the generous gestures saying the sponsorship will go a long way in bolstering standards of the game in the country. “This is the fourth year we are partnering with LG Electronics and we are overly excited to welcome them back. It is most heartening to see the attitude of the footballers who were all smiling and thoroughly enjoying themselves after winning the awards. It’s a fact now that every player wants to win this award and that’s why we strive to organize the event to the best of our ability,” said Mbaisi.
Gor Mahia forward Meddie Kagere picked the ultimate prize after being crowned the LG/SJAK 2017 Footballer of the Year in a glittering ceremony held at the National Museum of Kenya in Nairobi in mid-December 2017.
