A bandit was on Saturday killed and more than 100 cows stolen during a raid in Kipnai village in Tiaty Sub-county, Baringo.

“It was around 5 pm when some people armed with Ak47 guns, the majority of them dressed in NPR uniform attacked,” a

Pokot resident Tiliot Lolem told the Star on

“We wonder if they were really NPR what business they were doing with the cattle rustlers when we thought they should be assisting in making peace and helping to recover the stolen livestock,” Lolem asked.

The attack happens barely a week after suspected armed bandits from Tiaty sub-county attacked Chesoi village in the bordering Elgeyo-Marakwet, killing two herders on

Monday.

Tension is currently high at Kipnai village forcing over 300 residents among them children, women and the elderly, to spend their night in the bush, fearing for their lives.

However, Tiaty Sub-county Deputy Commissioner Yusuf Buka confirmed the attack saying it is yet to be ascertained if someone was killed and also the number of livestock stolen.

“Although it could be true the attack occurred but our officers are yet to confirm if really one NPR was killed” Said Buka.

On

Monday, Baringo County Police Commander Smollets Munyanzi said, urged the locals to maintain calm assuring that security officers have commenced manhunt against the armed bandits.

“In our preliminary investigation we have identified some hardy criminals behind the attacks, we are in tough pursuit hoping to soon apprehend them,” said Munyanzi.
