Mombasa governor Hassan Joho's bodyguards have been withdrawn after he attended
NASA's swearing-in ceremony.
Raila Odinga was inaugurated as the people's president at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Joho invited Raila to take the oath and has seen been the talk of town ahead of 2022 general elections.
The Star has established Joho's bodyguards were recalled on Tuesday. But it was not immediately clear whether officers guarding Joho's residents were also recalled.
Reached for comment, the governor said:
"I will never complain about it."
Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir said the security withdrawal will not derail the course for justice.
On Wednesday, when the governor was at Mombasa High Court for the commissioning of Justice Towers, his security detail was not with him as is the norm.
This is not the first time Joho is facing such a predicament.
In 2016, the government withdrew his security after he bashed president Uhuru Kenyatta over development.
The trend continued after the Malindi by-election that Willy Mtengo won.
After Joho was inaugurated, county secretary Francis Thoya said they were "now in good books with the government".
He cited reinstatement of his security detail.
Following the swearing-in, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i said investigations were launched into those who took part.
They include lawyers Miguna Miguna, Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang and Siaya senator James Orengo.
