Tourists cancel bookings as Lamu stricken by attacks

Frequent al Shabaab attacks have hurt tourism in Lamu.

Speaking on Wednesday, stakeholders said recent attacks made many tourists cancel January bookings.

Some countries have issued travel updates and advice about violence in certain areas. There are no advisories against travel to Kenya.

Former area tourism association deputy chair Ghalib Alwy (pictured) called on the government to tame insecurity and come up with effective marketing strategies.

He said the security situaationmust be stable and foreigners must be convinced of their safety.
