Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has alleged that his arrest was politically instigated by political rivals to distabilise his leadership.

Speaking to The Star on Friday, Babu said he was arrested by Flying Squad officers who told him they had orders from Nairobi DCI boss Nicholas Kamwende.

"I was arrested and booked in here and the only person who can clearly tell the nation what happened is DCIO Kamwende Ireri."

"I hope he comes clean on this because I am innocent on any allegations being fabricated," the first term legislator said.

Kamwende did not respond to messages or phone calls when contacted for comment.

Babu further alleged that one officer had informed him that Francis Mureithi, who petitioned his Embakasi East win had communicated with another MP saying he (Babu) would be arrested before 4pm.

"My rival wants to hold me till Monday for reasons best known to him. I'm told Mureithi called another city MP and told him I would be arrested....clearly, things are happening as they had planned," he said.

Mureithi, however, denied any involvement in the MP's arrest saying he has no dispute or conflict with Babu Owino aka Paul Ongili.

"We ended our issues on August 8 and if it were up to me he would free, he does not owe me and vice versa."

"So, if he was arrested over assault, he should go make amends with those he assaulted," the politician said.

Babu was allegedly arrested for assaulting a security guard in Westlands.

However, the MP claims the police held him for "attempting to overthrow the government".

Babu, in a Facebook post, said he has been detained at the Parklands police station, Nairobi.

"Been arrested. Held at Parklands. Charges are two. Harbouring intention to overthrow government. Assault. It shall be well," he told his followers.
