Health CS Cleopas Mailu has ordered investigations into the alleged rape ordeals at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

He said the KNH management and security agents will provide a report on the issue by Monday, January 22.

Mailu said via

Twitter that he has

instructed the management to beef up security measures to protect patients and their relatives.

Claims of breastfeeding mothers being raped at the facility emerged on Friday after mothers who were raped or nearly raped voiced the actions.

With the arrival of the babies, mothers are expected to go and

breastfeed their babies every two hours in the nurseries located on another floor, separate from their wards.

This exercise is hindered and complicated by the threat of rape and theft they face on their way to the nurseries.

, Kenyans condemned the allegations saying the government has to step in before it is too late.

"The horror stories of breastfeeding mothers at @KNH at night are blood cuddling,"

@wangarikanyongo said.

She added, "the fact that it's nurses and hospital staff warning the mothers against the rapists is even worse because its a known evil #STOPrapeatKNH."

Facebook user Elena Gachomo said the deeds of evil must come to an end.

"KNH whatever is happening around has reached our ears, a day of evil must come to an end," she said.

User Kabobo Mwangi said the breastfeeding mothers are

already vulnerable and should be treated carefully.

"Post-childbirth are targeted and raped by mortuary attendants when they walk to/fro

the nursery/NICU for breastfeeding sessions during the wee hours of the night. This is appalling!" he said.
