The EACC has summoned 17 Murang'a MCAs following fights at the assembly.

In a letter to the speaker, the commission says it wants to implement the Ethics and Anti-corruption commission Act, which requires state and public office holders to uphold high standards of integrity and ethical conduct.

Central region director Jackson Mue said their attention was drawn to media reports of chaos at the assembly on January 16, when MCAs fought over leadership.

"The fight that occurred in the office of the leader of majority was the third since the MCAs took oath of office," the EACC's letter stated.

"The commission notes that allegations [raised] constitute serious ethical issues and amount to a serious breach of ethics and integrity requirements governing the conduct of state officers, as laid out in chapter six of the constitution."

The director also summoned the speaker on January 31 to assist in investigations into the unethical conduct of the MCAs and record a statement.

Each summonses contains the date and time when individual MCAs are to avail themselves for questioning at the commission's Nyeri office.

Mue noted the commission's disapproval of the MCAs conduct and warned them to steer clear of any prohibited actions.

The MCAs who have been summoned include Simon Murigi, Beth Waithira, Cathryn Mwangi, Charles Ngang'a, Daniel Chege, David Irungu, Eric Kamande, Flasia Nduta, Jecintah Ng'ang’a, John Ruoho and Joyce Wambui.

Others are Peter Githuka, Peter Mburu, Samuel Kihurujo, Samuel Wamwea, Stephen Chege, Stanley Mburu and clerk Chris Kinyanjui.

On Tuesday, Jecintah Ng'ang'a, Amos Murigi and Stanley Mburu were charged with creating disturbances and were released on cash bails of Sh100,000 each.

Ng'ang'a and Murigi faced a second count of creating disturbance when they stormed into the clerk's office in an attempt to evict him on November 27 last year.

They were also released on cash bails of Sh100,000 each.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of six other ward representatives over the chaos at the assembly.
