Five candidates have been shortlisted for the positions of Deputy Inspector General even as others kept off for fear of the "President's men."

They are George Kinoti (DCI), Edward Mbugua (Kenya Police service), Musa Dhadho (AP), Noor Gabow (AP), and Vincent Makokha (AP).

"The following candidates have been shortlisted and are to appear for interviews on January 18th," NPSC chairperson Johnston Kavuludi said on Wednesday.

They will be interviewed at the commission's boardroom at Sky Plaza, fourth floor, from 8 am to 12:30 pm.

Senior police officers in both the Administration and Kenya Police Service kept off the positions.

Sources within the National Police Service said the officers saw the recruitment as "just a formality".

Their argument is that there were presidential appointees already earmarked for the jobs.

"The appointees would emerge tops in the interviews", the sources said.

More on this:

Candidates should carry original National IDs, academic certificates including transcripts and professional certificates, and any other supporting documents and testimonials.

Others requirements are tax clearance certificates from KRA and clearance from EACC, HELB, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and Credit Reference Bureau.

"Members of the public are invited to submit in writing any information to the commission in relation to any of the shortlisted candidates," Kavuludi said.

Information should be sent to [email protected] or can be dropped at the commission's offices in Westlands by January 20.

The application deadline elapsed on Monday.

The NPSC had also called for applications to the position of the director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Uhuru sacked former DIGs Joel Kitili and Samuel Arachi alongside DCI boss Ndegwa Muhoro on January 5.

He said the three will be redeployed by the Public Service Commission.
