Johannes Orao, secretary general Homa Bay Jua Kali Artisans Association, and his counterpart at the Homa Bay Giant Traders Jack Nyambega

said their electrical appliances have also been damaged.

"Most electric appliances, including welding machines, get damaged during power outages."

Orao argued that traders at the town lose at least Sh5 million daily due to lack of electricity.

"Some of our customers are now seeking services in neighbouring counties like Kisii and Kisumu," he added.

Nyambega said salons, barber shops, cyber cafes, photocopying bureaus, and petrol stations are the most affected.

He added that food dealers are equally not spared by the frequent power disruptions.

George Omwaro, Kenya Power Homa Bay business manager, said the outage was caused by a major fault in the main line.

He said they were forced to switch off supplies to pave way for the works.

"We expect power to be restored after the faulty line is replaced," Omwaro said.
