A Murang'a MCA has been remanded for two days for causing disturbance hours after his colleagues fought over assembly leadership.

Kimorori Wempa MCA Amos Murigi was arrested at Kenol town on Tuesday and taken to a Murang'a court.

The prosecution applied for him to remain in custody for the period so they can complete their investigations.

State counsel Solomon Njeru told chief magistrate Margaret Wachira that he needed more time to formally prefer charges against Murigi.

The MCA applied to be released on free bond saying he needed to seek medical attention for the injuries that he sustained during the scuffle in the assembly.

His application was rejected by the magistrate who also issued warrants for the arrest of six MCAs who engaged in the fight.

They are

Jecintah Ng’ang’a (Township), Nominated MCAs Stephen Chege, Beth Waithera and Joyce Wambui, Kagundu-ini's Peter Mburu and deputy speaker Samuel Kihurunjo.

Murigi was elected leader of majority to replace Eric Kamande while Wambui was elected the chief whip to replace Simon Wamwea.

The elections took place two weeks ago, during a Jubilee party assembly caucus that turned violent in Kiambu county.

The MCAs fought as the newly elected officials reported to their offices.
