The recent mass transfers

of principals were malicious and done without consultations,

KNUT Mwingi branch executive secretary Jonathan Mutambu has said.

As a result, the union leader has warned TSC that the worst is yet to happen. He did not specify the actions they will take.

On Friday, acting Education CS Fred Matiang’i issued a directive that anyone involved in disrupting the head teachers' transfer be arrested and charged.

But Mutambu said proper consultations should have been carried out before the transfers are implemented.

The union leader says this would have allowed TSC to sort out the underlying factors which may hinder smooth transition of school heads.

"What were the reasons behind the malicious transfers?" he asked.

The executive secretary said that in as much as KNUT supports transfers, the process should be

well thought and for the mutual benefit of all.

He asked the government to put the transfers to a halt and ensure thorough consultations with education stakeholders in order to avert future crisis in the education sector.

Mutambu said recent cases where principals have faced resistance at their new places of work is a clear indication that many people are not comfortable with such transfers.

"As far as I am concerned, the union remains opposed to the mass transfer of school heads until when proper consultations will be done and the ministry gives good reasons for the move," he added.
