Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has urged women to seek higher leadership positions and not give up despite challenges.
Waiguru is one of Kenya's first three female governors. The others are Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Joyce Laboso (Bomet).

The governor gave the keynote addresses at the close of the induction meeting of the
Kenya Women Parliamentarians Association in Naivasha.
Waiguru noted that over the years, women have undergone challenges in leadership but that nothing has stopped them.
She asked the public to respect female leaders as they face more challenges before rising to key positions.
"Women in Kenya have made major strides in leadership, and not only in politics but also in other sectors. The future is bright for Kenyan women," she said on Sunday.
"Women are headed in the right direction. I urge them to seek for more elective positions such as governor."
The governor also encouraged the MPs to keep fighting for implementation of the two thirds gender rule in Parliament.
She said: "Competition is not enmity. I encourage all of you to walk the extra mile and run for higher elective posts."
Waiguru, who is vice chairperson of the Council of Governors, said it was an honour to serve Kirinyaga residents. She asked leaders to unite and respect each other.
The county leader newly elected Kewopa leaders, led by chair Wangui Ngirici who is Kirinyaga woman representative.
