Raila to attend Lunchtime hitmaker Omollo Gabby's funeral

NASA leader Raila Odinga is expected to attend the burial of veteran Benga maestro Gabriel Omollo, famous for his 'Lunchtime' song.

'Omollo Gabby' will be buried on January 20

at his Nyabeda home in Ugunja constituency.

The musician died after a long illness on the night of January 3, 2018.

Bishop Ribanex Awitta, the secretary of the funeral committee, added that politicians from the region will either attend the ceremony or send representatives.

Noting a funds drive took place at Ugunja Motel from 1pm on Wednesday, Awitta

asked for help from fans, relatives, friends and the business community.

“We are expecting many local and international visitors so the budget is stretched,"Awiti said, but added that they were also expecting more contributions that what had been given.

Gabby's body is at the morgue at

Sega mission hospital in Ugenya. It will be taken to

Ugunja Catholic Church for a requiem mass on January 18.

Awitta said funeral arrangements were in top gear and that a major music show will be held on January 19.

The Bishop announced that

Kenya Power ordered the extension of power to the home of the musician, which is more than a kilometre from Ugunja town.

“The Kenya Power team is on the ground, fixing poles at the home, in readiness for the grand sendoff," he said.

Awitta warned that a conman had distributed a fake M-Pesa paybill number for donations. But he said they contacted Safaricom which issued them a new number. He advised well-wishers to obtain it only from credible sources.

Melodica, Jojo Entertainment company, Kodiyo and Kenya Music Copyright Society of Kenya are among organisations that are collecting money on behalf of the family.

The clergyman said all correspondence should only be channeled through retired Major General Pastor Awita, who is the family spokesperson.
