NASA MPs have faulted Kenya Power and the Energy Regulatory Commission for irregularities in the power billing system.

The lawmakers, who are members of the National Assembly Committee on Energy, demanded answers on Wednesday from the top leaders of the organisations.

They want KP managing director and CEO Ken Tarus and ERC director general Robert Oimeke to explain the irregularities to Kenyans.

MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) and Geoffrey Ososti (Nominated) told the media at Parliament Buildings that the two are solely responsible for the mishap.

"When such occurs, the blame lies squarely with KP and ERC. Kenyans need answers," Osotsi said.

The legislators said they will summon the two senior officials when Parliament resumes mid next month.

Odhiambo said they will seek answers on why electricity bills are getting higher.

They further dismissed Energy CS Charles Keter's explanation on Modday, terming it "illogical".

Keter denied reports that Kenya Power has been backdating customers’ bills, leading to inflated charges.

He noted that this can only be sanctioned by the Energy Regulatory Commission through 45 days of public participation.
