Two brothers from Kinango, Kwale county are appealing to well-wishers to support them through secondary school after they failed to secure county bursary scholarship.

Juma Chiro and Rama Chiro, who scored 332 and 311 marks respectively in last year's KCPE, said their uncle has been supporting them after their biological father abandoned them.

Though married to a charcoal seller who can barely make ends meet, Juma's mother said she is struggling to raise her three children as the man only caters for food.

"Our family relies on charcoal burning business for a living. We can barely manage three meals per day, leave alone school fees," Mejumaa Chiro said on Thursday.

She fears that the boys may not join secondary school as forms ones report next Tuesday since the family can hardly cater for their school fees.

The boys sat their exams at Moyeni and Dumbule primary schools emerging among the top students in Kinango sub-county in the 2017 KCPE.

Juma told the Star that his dreams of becoming a nurse have been thrown in jeopardy in the face of the current uncertainties.

He secured admission at Shimba hills secondary while his brother Rama was called to Mazeras high school.

The family says they have are planning to take the boys to the nearby Kinango secondary school.

Juma Gube, the boy's uncle, said that his efforts to secure county bursary programme has been fruitless as the cut off points was set at 350 marks.

"We consulted the bursary committee for a scholarship but we were told we can only benefit from small bursary cheques which won't be enough."

The boys also missed a scholarship by Base Titanium company since they submitted their applications late.

Gube said he has a family to cater for with his small income of Sh20,000.

"I am still in college and I support my two sibling with the same salary," he said.

Gube's mobile phone number is 0716343571.
