Most schools reopened in Kerio Valley on Tuesday as security has been improved and fewer bandit attacks recorded.

The government is impressed with the progress,

Rift Valley regional coordinator Wanyama Musiambo told The Star by phone.

"We are happy that most schools have reopened and that

development activities have resumed. We hope for an even better environment," said Musiambo.

Security teams, however, will remain on high alert in

parts of the region that has been unstable for years. This has been due to attacks that forced education and other activities to stall.

Politicians from West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet met

on Monday for talks on speeding up the peace process.

Among those who met at Kameli

in West Pokot were

Senator Samwel Poghisio, Governor John Lonyangapuo, Elgeyo Marakwet's Alex Tolgos and the county's Deputy Governor Wesley

Rotich.

"We have vowed to work together to end the cattle rusting menace that has affected the region economically and socially," said Tolgos.
