Police probe Chepalungu cop's death, suicide cited

Police in Chepalungu, Bomet, are investigating the alleged suicide of a junior officer on Thursday morning.

Peter Kagunda is reported to have shot himself with a G3

rifle at Lugumek police station.

Bomet Police Commander Naomi Ichami said the deceased was alone at the report office. Another officer, who was on duty,

had left the station.

Ichami said the bullet that killed him the officer entered through the mouth and exited through the roof of the report office.

"An officer who was on duty with Kagunda left to prepare for the security of the national examination. An officer in charge heard a gunshot and went to check. He found the deceased lying dead on the ground," she said.

A spent cartridge and three live bullets were recovered inside the report office.

An officer at the station told the Star Kagunda was jovial on the day he died. The reason for his death remains unclear.

Ichami said the body was moved to Longisa County Referral Hospital morgue.
